Three-dimensional (3D) images are an invaluable tool for conveying ideas. According to the University of Hertfordshire, “Representing 3 dimensions on a flat piece of paper is a very important skill for designers enabling them to communicate their ideas to other people.” With Adobe Acrobat 9, you can directly insert three-dimensional images into the body of a document. This enables 3D images to be rendered on paper as well as electronic documents.
- Select the “Tools” menu from the top menu bar. A drop-down menu will appear underneath the tool bar.
-
Step 2
Click on “Multimedia” on the drop-down menu. Then select “3D Tool” from the sub-menu that appears. The mouse cursor will turn into crosshairs.
-
Step 3
Drag the crosshairs while holding down the mouse button to highlight the area in the PDF where you want to place the 3D file. A pop-up window labeled “Insert 3D” will appear.
-
Step 4
Type the 3D file’s name into the text bar or select the button labeled “Browse” and locate the 3D file on your computer’s hard drive.
-
Step 5
Click on the button labeled “Okay.”

Uninstall Adobe Acrobat Pro
-
Step 1
Go to Control Panel under the Start Menu. Or access the Control Panel under My Computer.
-
Step 2
Double click the link titled Add or Remove Programs. A new window pops up that lists the programs installed on your computer; this may take a few minutes.
-
Step 3
Click on the Adobe Acrobat item listed. It will typically be identified by and accompanied with the Adobe emblem.
-
Step 4
Click the Remove button on the bottom right corner of the list item.

Install Older Version of Adobe Acrobat Pro
-
Step 1
Locate your copy of Adobe Acrobat Pro. This may be a disc in a box you bought in a store, or a downloadable, executable or self-extracting archive file downloaded from the website.
-
Step 2
Put disc in, or double click on the executable from the Adobe web site. If you received a self-executing archive file, it may need to install setup files on your hard drive before it can install. Keep in mind where you place the setup files on your computer; you may want to delete them to clear up hard drive space once the installation is complete.
-
Step 3
Follow the installation instructions provided on the screen for whatever version of Adobe Acrobat Pro you are installing. You will need to enter a serial number or key for this version. It will be different than the one you used for your older version. Keep this serial number on hand for the installation.
-
Step 4
Try running the program once the installation is complete.
Tips & Warnings
-
You may need to delete registry values to completely remove the newer version of Adobe Acrobat Pro. Only do this if you have a very complete understanding of registry values, or you have someone on hand who can walk you through it.
-
After you uninstall Adobe Acrobat Pro, you may want to make sure the folder is deleted. The default installation folder is in C:\Program Files\Adobe.

The Adobe Acrobat Standard and Professional editions provide simple calculation options for PDF forms. Users can add a custom text field that sums, multiplies or calculates an average of the values entered on the form. Calculation options include computing the average value and maximum or minimum values in the range of data fields. Advanced calculations can be performed using JavaScript programming. However, users can build text fields containing incremental calculations and combine the calculated values in another text box.
Simple Calculations
-
Step 1
Launch Acrobat Standard or Professional and open the desired PDF form.
-
Step 2
Select “Edit Form in Acrobat” under “Forms” in the top menu bar to open a Forms toolbar.

One frustrating feature of Adobe Acrobat is that with every upgrade the program changes its compression software. This means that PDF files and forms built with newer versions of Acrobat may not be compatible with older ones. However, there is a simple trick to fix your form before you save it so that friends and colleagues using Acrobat 6 can read and fill out your Acrobat 9-created forms.
- Open the PDF you wish to turn into an Acrobat 6-compatible form.
-
Step 2
Select “Start Form Wizard” from the Forms menu.
-
Step 3
Check the box marked “Start with a PDF document” and click “Next.”
-
Step 4
Check the box marked “Use the current document” and click “Next.”
-
Step 5
Follow any additional prompts to complete your form if Acrobat cannot read it automatically. Click “Close Form Editing” when it looks the way you want it to. You can always go back and edit later, if need be.
-
Step 6
Select “Reduce File Size” from the Document menu.
-
Step 7
Choose “Acrobat 6.0 or later” from the drop-down compatibility box. Click “OK.”
-
Step 8
Save your file.
Tips & Warnings
-
Since later versions of Acrobat compress your PDF files more efficiently, making your form compatible with Acrobat 6 will increase the file size. However, unless your form spans many pages, the difference will be negligible.
